If Sleep was Easy...

If getting a baby to sleep was easy then there would not be so many books- so many of them stating "Millions of copies sold" on their cover, so many websites, so many posts,so many memes, so many......you get the point, yes?
.
If you ever for a moment think that you are alone, just remember this: You are not. Millions sold. Millions.
Here is a stack of books that I have read recently.
.
That book on the very bottom?  That is a very dog eared, very old copy of Ferber's Solve Your Child's Sleep Problems.  (Yes, it was thinner back then.) Reading Weissbluth again almost gave me PTSD.   I did get that baby to sleep and that baby did grow up. How they sleep now is no longer my business as they no longer live with me, which, btw, doesn't mean that when I read Walker's book ( which is a best seller, but not about infant sleep) I didn't text some quotes to that 25 year old baby! I stay out of their business most of the time, but, once a mom, always a mom.
.
Here is what I realized reading all of these books now-they have a lot of really really great information in them. And. They are long.
.
Most moms that I speak with about these well respected sources admit to maybe reading Karp while pregnant and are now trying desperately to find the answer to their concerns while nursing and falling asleep.
.
Weissbluth is 23 hours long on Audible.  23 hours!  Again, I think that every single one of these books, and many of the hundreds more, and all the websites and all the memes have value, even the ones which I may not 100% agree with.  I also think that if you haven't slept in months it's hard to process all that wisdom and knowledge, even if you do find the time.
.
If getting a baby to sleep was easy I wouldn't be writing this and you wouldn't be reading it.  If getting an infant to sleep was easy Ferber and Wiessbluth would only be found in a dusty bin at the local Goodwill, they would not be in print 35 and 33 years later!!
.
Some parents do not struggle with the issue of sleep and infants.  You may know some of those people.  And that is awesome.  Some babies really are better sleepers than others.  All babies are unique wonderful beings, as are their parents.  Discovering how to help your baby sleep is an enormous gift to you, to your baby, to your souse, to everyone in you life!
